Strandordnungen in early modern Schleswig-Holstein and their historical context [CANCELLED]
Henning Andresen (University of Kiel)
Dealing with stranded and sunken ships, flotsam and jetsam as well as the human and animal victims of naval accidents in the early modern period was regulated by numerous legislations. In addition to their legal content these often contain a variety of information on political and social aspects and thus offer a deep and vivid insight in the structure of premodern seafaring as well as the perception of nautical disasters and their surrounding phenomena. The lecture focuses on the so called Strandordnungen of Schleswig, Holstein and Hamburg with an emphasis on the 18th century.
